Behind the Song: Man Like You

Marriage was created by God to be a lifelong covenant between a man and a woman. It's hard to believe that such a simple statement that has stood the test of time is now controversial. It's crazy that people have been cancelled for just agreeing with that fact.
It's no secret that marriage is under attack in our culture. God created marriage to be a picture demonstrating the kind of deep, enduring, covenantal love that He has for His people. Scripture is full of verses using imagery from weddings and marriage to describe the love of our Messiah for His Beloved--those He has called out of darkness and redeemed unto Himself. The devil hates God and hates us so much that he works desperately to tear down this picture to distort our understanding of Who God is and how much He loves us. Things like fornication, adultery, homosexuality, rape, abuse, and divorce distort and destroy the beautiful picture that God has created for us when He created marriage.
Men are even more so under attack. Our culture teaches men that they are unnecessary. Masculinity is called toxic, and men are brainwashed into behaving more like women. In the past, a man who desired to provide and protect for his family was considered to be a good man, today he's considered to be a misogynist.
That's why I wanted to write a song pushing back against our culture. I wanted to celebrate men. I am thankful for my husband. I am thankful that God brought Him to me, and that He is a good, godly man who works hard (many long hours in the hot sun!) and does all the hard things that frankly, even most feminists don't want to do. He is such a great blessing and I love Him so much.
